Inaugural Blog

Hi. How are you? My name is Sean. Welcome to my layer of the blogosphere.I happen to be a student at the Institute of Production and Recording in Minneapolis. It’s pretty fun stuff. So why is this guy blogging? you may ask yourself. Well there are millions of seperate events that have led me to where I am at the present moment, so before I dive into things, I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself.

I was born on September 16, 1983, in New Ulm, Minnesota. Pretty exciting town. So I moved away when I was 2.  Not much happened until I was about 20 years old as a student of architecture (George Costanza) and found myself delivering pizza in St. Cloud. Pretty fun job, but I found that listening to the radio for upwards of 8-10 hours straight kind of gets old.  Someone should tell 93x that other bands have formed since Nirvana and Metallica.  So I found myself borrowing CDs from friends, buying random stuff from the Fetus. “Expanding my horizons” if you will.  Call me a late bloomer, but pretty much all I knew about music at that point was what I had heard on the radio. And my Dad’s CCR greatest hits CD. I have led a very sheltered life. When I was little we were allowed to drink one Welch’s grape soda a week. But anyways, I started listening to a lot more music since I was driving all the time, and I was like, “this is pretty neat”. So then I was feeding my brain all kinds of musical madness (I’m not going to name drop bands….yet). So then a few years later, after getting laid off from a lucrative two year career at a failing custom window company, I ended up at IPR.  So I now sit here blogging. So I guess that still doesn’t explain why, but hey, it’s my blog, I do what I want. I’ll probably be discussing various topics, things like music that I am listening to, books, current goings-on at IPR, my emotions, my failed dreams, my ex-wife, my sister’s cats, and basically what it is like to live inside the throbbing wet ball of gray matter that is my brain. Oh yeah, I don’t actually have an ex-wife. Sorry, I just read this back and it is really boring. But it will get better I swear.

For this inaugural blog, I shall leave you with an old song. I really don’t know anything about these guys, but I have come to admire the work of Mark Wheat over at the Current. Really cool accent. Looking into him, I found that he admires the work of a man named John Peel. He was a DJ, and I think I read somewhere that this was his favorite song. So give it a listen. Its old school.

I don’t have a catchy sign-off yet.

Love, Sean
