The Gambler

Yesterday, at the party for Brutus (see yesterday’s post), I stumbled upon a nine year old playing the Nintendo classic Super Mario Brothers. Pretty fun stuff. Little did I know that this interaction would make me one dollar richer.

He advanced to the little warp area in level one, and this conversation unfolded:

Me: “Oooo, go to the underwater level, number two.”

Kid: “Level two isn’t the underwater level.”

Me: “Yeah it is.”

Kid: “No it isn’t.”

Me: “Yeah it is.”

Kid: “No it’s not.”

This argument went on for some time. He eventually bet me one dollar that level two isn’t the underwater one. As we all know, it was a foolish wager on his part. A little while later, he tried to pay me with a lottery ticket that had won a dollar. What is up with kids these days? Anyways, I was eventually awarded my spoils, and I now hold in my hand a cool, crisp, 1999 G-Wash Federal Reserve Note. I’m hoping that this is the start of an unbelievable hot streak for me.

Blong. Might as well make it the Mario theme song, composed by Koji Kondo.
